How Should I Prepare My Recyclables?

- Please rinse your cans and make sure they are empty.
- Crushing is optional but saves space
Corrugated Cardboard
- Look for the ridges inside the layers of a corrugated cardboard box.
- Flatten boxes and keep dry.
Glass Bottles and Jars
- Separate glass bottles and jars by color
- Clear, brown, and green
- Windows, light bulbs, windshields and cookware are all made of a different type of glass are NOT acceptable
- PLEASE REMOVE ALL LIDS AND RINGS!
- Rinse well. Labels can remain.
HDPE Colored Plastic
- Look for the #2 symbol on the bottom of the laundry detergent, fabric softener, shampoo, and other bottles and jugs.
- Remove the lid and rinse well.
HDPE Natural Plastic
- Look for the #2 symbol on the bottom of milk jugs, spring water jugs, ectc.
- Remove the lid and rinse well.

- Separate magazines and catalogs from other paper.
- Bundle or box and keep dry.
Newspapers
- Bundle your newspapers by placing them in a plastic or paper sack. Do not mix shiny paper or junk mail
- Inserts can remain
- Keep dry
Office Paper / Junk Mail
- Sort out office paper, junk mail, glossy paper, colored paper, envelopes, coupons, fax papers, etc.
- Bundle and keep dry.
PET Plastic
- Look for the #1 symbol on the bottom of soda bottles and other narrow neck jugs.
- Remove the lid and rinse if necessary.
Steel or “Bimetal” Cans
- Rinse your cans and secure the lid(s) inside
- Labels can remain on.
Used Motor Oil
- Bring oil in gallon jugs or other containers which are tightly capped.
